Building and Buying Investments

In the middle of a financial crisis, looking at the state of your short-term investments could make you a little nervous. Heck, looking at your financial position in general may cause you to rethink your strategy.  People are losing thousands out of their IRAs, 401k’s, other investment vehicles and finance accounts.  I’ve lost quite a bit of money myself.  But everytime I think about how much money I’ve lost, I refocus on my long-term strategy – to build a business as an investment. 

Buying vs. Buildng an Investment.  There is a huge difference between buying and building an investment.  Since buying an investment requires an vehicle, I like to think of it as buying a car.  With a little research and the right amount of money, you can put the key in the ignition and drive off the lot.  It’s that simple.  Building an investment, on the other hand, is more complex and takes alot more time.  Building a business as an investment resembles construction of a skyscraper in downtown Manhattan.
