Is Your Idea Too Crazy to Share?
I’m amazed every time someone leaves a comment on this blog thanking me for my insight on a particular topic. Why? Because my ideas for My Future in Focus sat in a crate for about 3 years before I ever made the decision to start this blog. Now 18 months after its debut, I’ve had more than 34,000 page views. All from an idea that I once thought was too crazy to share. The truth is…there are alot of people out there just like me.
So what…your vision for it isn’t crystal clear yet. How do you think it gets that way? Certainly not in a dusty crate or rusty file cabinet. Vision is clarified as it is walked out. I’ll give you an example…
Picture yourself in your car driving to work. It’s your first day on your new job and you just remembered that your GPS system is broken. So you quickly mapquest the directions, hop in your car and speed down the driveway…
15 minutes later, you’re out in the left lane, flying at 80 mph. Suddenly, you start to approach a green sign giving you the name of an upcoming exit. But you can’t tell whether it’s your exit or not. The sign is too fuzzy and you can’t see it clearly. So you slam on brakes, come to a screeching halt and wait for the sign to clear up!
Crazy isn’t it?
That’s how most people move forward with their vision for a “crazy idea.” They try it once. It doesn’t work. Then they trash it or stick it in a folder and try not to think about it. And from personal experience, I can tell you that it’s tempting to leave it right there. Life would seemingly be easier as you convince yourself, “I can work the rest of my life and not ever think about that crazy idea again.” But vision has a way of pulling at you…at odd hours of the night…when you’re trying to get some sleep…and you have to get up at 5 AM to go to work! And it is alot like that highway sign. If you come to a screeching halt just because it seems unclear, you’ll never reach your destiny (…and with all the last-minute Christmas shoppers out there, you may even cause a 30-car pile up…lol).
Just like I realized about this blog, you’ll see that once you share your vision, it’s not crazy after all. It may seem “out there” to you, but someone needs it. No matter what your “crazy idea” is, share a piece of it with someone today.
Tip: Vision is for others, not you. And what people tell you about your vision will clarify it. But only if you can unleash it.
